Balancing Faith and Action in a Full Season
Since my last update, I celebrated my 50th birthday, officiated several out-of-town weddings, participated in several funeral services, began teaching a New Testament Survey class at Stark College & Seminary, and have spent a good portion of the early days of summer serving as an unofficial Uber driver for Casey and Micah’s various sports activities. Life has been full, busy, and blessed.
None of those are complaints. They are reminders that ministry and family often happen simultaneously, and sometimes the calendar fills up faster than we expect.
One of the central themes of Ephesians is found in Paul’s challenge: “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called” (Ephesians 4:1). The Greek word translated worthy carries the idea of balance. Following Christ is not about achieving perfect balance every day. It is about continually realigning our lives with God’s calling when things get out of balance.
Over the last few weeks, I have been reminded that faithfulness is often found in the ordinary moments: celebrating milestones, serving family, teaching students, and investing in people. Those are sacred callings too.
Thank you for your patience and encouragement. I’m looking forward to getting back into our journey through Getting the Church Inside You and continuing to explore what it means to balance faith and action in our everyday lives.
