More Than We Imagine: Ordinary Places, Extraordinary Grace

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21)

This past Saturday reminded me that God often works through ordinary moments.

The book signing wasn't defined by the number of books sold. It was defined by conversations. I enjoyed spending time with Rachel and her fiancé, John, from Chapter One Bookstore, sharing good coffee at Daily Grind, and experiencing genuine fellowship with God's people. There was laughter, encouragement, stories exchanged, and reminders that the church is never merely a building. It is people gathering around Christ wherever He opens the door.

Paul concludes one of the greatest prayers in Ephesians by reminding us that God is able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine. Sometimes we assume that means larger crowds, bigger accomplishments, or greater recognition. But often God's "more" looks very different from ours.

Sometimes "more" is one meaningful conversation, one person who leaves encouraged, one opportunity to pray, or one reminder that faith grows best in relationships.

That's exactly what I witnessed last Saturday morning. Two local businesses, owned by different members of our church family, partnered to create space for conversations, encouragement, and fellowship. It was a reminder that when God's people see their everyday work as kingdom work, ordinary places become spaces where Christ is made known.

God still receives glory "in the church," not only when we gather on Sunday but whenever His people carry His presence into everyday places.

When the church gets inside us, Christ becomes visible wherever life takes us.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the ordinary places where You do extraordinary work. Help me never overlook the ministry that happens through conversations, friendships, encouragement, and simple acts of hospitality. May every table become an opportunity to reflect Your grace, and may You receive glory in Your church wherever Your people gather. Amen.
