But God
After describing the depth of our lostness, Paul introduces two words that change everything: “But God.”
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” (Ephesians 2:4-5).
“But God.” Those words hold the weight of the gospel. They remind us that grace is not our idea: God acts first. Mercy meets us while we are still lost. Love lifts us when we cannot lift ourselves.
The story of every believer begins with brokenness, but it does not end there; it turns when God steps in, when mercy outruns judgment and grace breathes life where there was none.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for stepping into my story with mercy and love. Thank You for making me alive with Christ. Help me live each day in the joy of Your grace and the strength of Your Spirit. Amen.
One question:
Where do you see a “But God” moment in your life right now, a place where His mercy is rewriting your story?
