God Is Not Finished Writing Your Story

Over the past few weeks, I have been living in a season of careful review and revision. Reading an advanced review copy of my book, marking corrections, receiving an updated version, and then returning to it again has reminded me that meaningful work is rarely completed in a single pass. Each review reveals something new. Each round of revision reflects a shared commitment to care, clarity, and faithfulness.

This back-and-forth process has become a quiet parable for me. What looks like repetition is often refinement. What feels slow is usually intentional. Growth happens not when we rush to finish, but when we remain attentive to what still needs shaping.

Paul writes, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance” (Ephesians 1:13-14).

In Ephesians, the seal of the Spirit is not a signal that the work is complete, but an assurance that God has bound Himself to us. The journey continues because a promise has been made. Faith rests not in perfection, but in God’s faithfulness to finish what He has begun.

Some of us may feel like unfinished books right now. You may be frustrated by mistakes you keep making, sins you seem to fall prey to again and again, or an overwhelming awareness of your own unfinished-ness. Scripture reminds us that unfinished does not mean abandoned. It means the Author is still at work.

I am grateful for the trust, experience, and expertise of the team at Kharis Publishing, and for the shared commitment we have entered into to each do our part in producing the very best book possible. In a far deeper and holier way, this reflects how God works with us through covenant, patience, and grace rather than urgency or fear. The Spirit within us is our guarantee that He will complete His work in us.

As you move into the week ahead, remember that God’s seal upon your life is not a comment on how finished you are. It is His pledge that He will not stop writing. You are still becoming, and God is still working.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for sealing us with Your Spirit and assuring us that You will finish the work You have begun. When we feel discouraged by our unfinished places, help us trust Your patient grace. Shape us, refine us, and teach us to rest in Your faithful love. Amen.

One question:

Where does your life feel unfinished right now, and how might God be inviting you to trust His ongoing work there?
