Being the Church When It Matters Most

In the days ahead, an arctic blast is expected to move through our region, bringing dangerously cold temperatures. For many, it will be an inconvenience. For others, especially the most vulnerable in our community, it can be life-threatening.

Moments like this remind us of who the church is called to be.

Paul writes, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

The good works Paul describes are not last-minute reactions or acts of panic. They are the fruit of a people shaped by Christ over time. God prepares His church in advance so that, when real needs arise, love shows up in tangible and faithful ways.

As a church, we are grateful for our longstanding partnership with the City of Weslaco and for our shared commitment to serve and protect those who are most vulnerable. Opening our doors as a warming station is not simply a response to the weather. It is an expression of who we are and how God has formed us to live.

Serving in moments like this reminds us that faith is not only something we believe or proclaim. It is something we practice. It looks like warmth offered, dignity protected, and neighbors cared for when the cold is real and the need is urgent.

Prayer: Father, thank You for calling Your church to be Your workmanship in the world. As cold weather approaches, give us compassionate hearts, willing hands, and a steady commitment to serve those in need. Help us walk in the good works You have already prepared, bringing warmth, safety, and hope to our community. Amen.

One question: How is God inviting you to live out His love in practical ways during this season?

If you would like to be part of this effort, please message me and I will be glad to share a link to our church’s secure online giving platform.
